Health Decisions
A number of my clients have asked me to share my views, as a homeopath and a natural health practitioner, about vaccinations for Covid.
I have decided to write about it not from a view point and what we should do, but as an invitation to help us consider the various factors that influence our decision making. I believe that health does not come from being told what to do, but how we integrate the available information in the context of our mental, physical and spiritual health and wellbeing in any given time.
When deciding to have the vaccination or now, which one of the following statements applies to you?
I believe that I won’t get the virus if I have the vaccination.
The risk of me getting the virus will be reduced.
The risk of me infecting others will be reduced.
The virus will come to an end and we can return to normal.
It’s what is expected of me - I don’t have any options.
If I don’t have it I don’t get to see my loved ones.
If I don’t have it, other people will not want to socialise with me.
If I and my family don’t have it my children will be excluded from their social circles.
I won’t be able to travel abroad.
I trust that the government and scientists know what’s good for me.
How do I know it's safe?
What is it that the doctors and scientists don’t know about this vaccinations yet?
Am I willing to take the risk that the vaccine may cause harm to my health?
Who is there to support me if I get unwell?
How is this going to influence the health of my children?
What is it that my body needs to be healthy?
What is it that my body needs to be healthy long term?
What is the right thing for me personally?
CHOICES AND DECISIONS
We are exposed to zillions of choices every day and apparently we make some 35,00 decisions daily! Many of these are subconscious, intuitive and habitual reactions, whilst others are more thoughtful and measured responses.
With the advances of education programmes, and it’s accompanying status, intellectualised decision based on ‘evidence’, ‘rational’ have become to be seen as superior. We overwhelm and dull ourselves with facts, figures and statistics. Facts that change on daily basis! We have come to disconnect from our inner knowing as the whispers of our hearts and the wisdom of our intuitive gut.
Our decisions are influenced by preconception of what we think should happen in response to external (real and assumed), our internal pressures, our values, time and, I would argue, foremost our fears. I consider some more in depth below.
LEARNT RESPONSE
Access to medicine and it’s accompanying science has until recently been ‘done to us’ rather than shared and discussed with us in an informative and consensual manner. We have trusted that the ‘doctors know best’ and the corresponding ‘white coat syndrome’ culture continues to persist on various levels. Whilst this culture is thankfully changing and a more patient inclusive practices are emerging, we still find ourselves vulnerable and challenged to voice our feelings and opinions. This may be especially the case when we find ourselves in clinical environments such as hospitals or health centres. A good proportion of population also continues to find comfort in someone else making more difficult decisions about their health for them.
RESPONSIBILITY
With choice comes responsibility. I remember Michael Foley (The Age of Absurdity: Why Modern Life Makes It Hard to Be Happy) imply how slavery of all kinds will continue to exist as it’s all too hard for the individuals to take on the accountability that comes with freedom.
BUT IT’S FREE
I overhear people say: ‘It’s free you know’. When we act from a place of scarcity we will not dare to ‘look the gifted horse in the mouth’ and for many this means that when offered something free it may feel too good to be missed.
TIME
Time too plays tricks on our psyche. Some of us feel keen to put things ‘in order’ immediately whilst others take time to decide. To not decide or act immediately may make people feel out ‘control’ and make it uneasy to sit with not knowing what may/should happen. This is not necessary an innate way of being but one imposed on us by our systems. We have seen our governments react with a sense of panic and make hasty moves as they attempt to roll out the Covid 19 vaccinates before these had been properly tested, to be seen as ‘doing the right thing’.
TRUST
Trust plays a significant part in our deciding. How do we balance that of what others, often ‘experts’, tell us to that of what is our truth?
INFORMED CONSENT
When we have things done to us against our will we are being violated on a physical, mental and spiritual level. Most of us will be able to recall an experience of this and some of which may have had a lasting effects. I am sorry if that’s been the case for you.
Whenever we receive a treatment, have a procedure we should be asked to give our consent. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/consent-to-treatment/. Informed consent means being given unbiased information in a way that we can understand it. This includes information about any side effects. A good clinician will take into account the person’s individual risk factors and make this relevant to the individual.
When we give consent we say: ‘yes’ I comprehend it and am willing to receive it whilst allowing for both benefits and risks.
In the surge of Covid vaccinations aiming to vaccinate millions of people as quickly as possible, what allowance are made for time and space necessary where informed consent can be gained.
There is a lot of pressure on all kinds of employees to step forward and accept the vaccinations. How much of this is done from a place of fear of losing jobs?
THE EXPERIMENT
The scientists and politicians are currently predicting what the vaccines may do and language such as: ’it should, …. It may…’. The findings of what the vaccination may do is more a speculation rather than a fact. Many vaccinations for SARS virus have been developed and put on the market labelled as safe in the past, only to then be withdrawn as this was not the case. (Please note that Corona virus is part of SARS viruses, whilst Covid 19 is a term to describe the umbrella of the symptoms that has been collected and attributed to Corona virus.)
I believe if one is to have the vaccination the one needs to know that they are consenting to being part of an experiment.
…’money, money, money is the rich man’s song’
Financial incentives are offered to the NHS departments to get their staff to take up vaccinations. GPs get paid ££ for each patient that receives a vaccine from them. In the given situation can these institutions afford to miss out on these payouts?
And already, and not surprisingly, we are hearing about repeat vaccination on annual basis being necessary to deal with the Covid19 variants. For some this will seem like a thoughtful consideration whist others will see the Big Pharma agenda behind it.
We may also wish to note that it’s not in government’s interest to take a long term view on strategies but are quick to act from a place of what will make them win most votes. Could it be that they are ‘selling’ us a promise of hope, return to normality rather than health?
BALANCED VIEWPOINT?
To give a balanced viewpoint was the request that my client asked for.
I am afraid I cannot give this in view that about a third of my clients are currently on a detox programme to ease the side effects of medication (antibiotics, contraceptives) and vaccinations out of their bodies.
On the more global level too we see governments pay out millions of dollars/pounds/euros to the individuals who have suffered vaccine damage. We don’t see this in the headlines of our news.
FREEDOM?
Most of you who will read this are likely to be living in a country that is ‘free’. Returning to ‘normal’ and being able to travel again may be an incentive for you to choose to have the vaccination. Will this buy you a ticket to ‘freedom’? Exercising my personal freedom and that of being able to travel has played a major part in how I have lived my life. The possibility of potentially only being able to travel if I had an ‘immunity’ passport, not based on my actual immunity but that of whether I had been ‘vaccinated’, does not instil me with a sense of freedom that I crave.
BIGGER PICTURE
In natural health practice we recognise that suppression of any kind (as opposite of expression) has lasting effects not just on the individual’s health, but that of generations to come. We are beginning to connect with this fact as we note how this happens when we’ve not been able to express our emotions. The same goes for suppression of physical expression.
Beings of Nature as we are, our actions are intricately interconnected with our planet. What actions we take as humans can have either positive or negative; catastrophic and lasting effects even, on our planet.
Example of malpractice is evident when we cast our eyes on the rise of autoimmune disease, that of what we have done to our environment through intensive farming practices of growing mono crops, using of pesticides and insecticides, hormones, genetic modifications and other harmful strategies that had devastating impact on our soil, depleting it, and ourselves, of essential nutrients; harming and destroying the ecosystems that are essential for our survival.
We are not just hurting Mother Earth, we are hurting ourselves. Do we choose to continue to do this, so that we can live a few years longer… whilst disregarding what may be for the greater good of our planet?
‘FIGHTING’ AS A WAY OF BEING
We are fighting Covid, we are fighting cancer, we are fighting depression….. The sheer idea of a ‘fight’ implies that we are at war. Just like being at war with other nations or with our neighbours, we know that war is not a solution. Being at war with our bodies to eradicate the ‘disease’ will not get us far. These are the ‘symptoms’ not the disease.
Might it be that the real solution to being healthy is to face our fears of death, separation from our loved ones, feelings of injustice - ‘why me’, fear of rejection/exclusion/abandonment…so to live well and not just survive.
FOLLOWING OUR KNOWING
Making space to hear and consider rather than react to what we hear will allow us to respond more wisely.
When our choices are not aligned in our mind, heart and soul we see disintegration of our integrity. This shows up in our daily lives as uncertainty, helplessness, doubt or defensiveness. It also shows up in our sleep pattern in our physical body through various symptoms.
When we are not sure what is right for us it’s ok to not know. We can either panic and react, or we take a pause and respond when the answer to us is clear, when the information we need to satisfy our knowledge is available.
These are challenging times. I honour what you decide to do for yourself, but I hope that your decisions come from a place where you follow what is helpful for you not just now but long term too.
