Mindfulness & Self Compasson

Why Mindfulness?

Our SUFFERING is caused by reminiscing or ruminating on the PAST and events, people no longer in our life, places we’ve visited OR fretting about the FUTURE. It’s our nervous system trying to protect us from coming to any harm, further losses. Being suspended in our attention between the ‘past’ and the ‘future’ makes us miss out on the present moment.

Mindfulness practice supports us in becoming more OBSERVANT and to PAUSE before taking action. This pause allows us to NOTICE things that we would otherwise not notice. This increases our AWARENESS and allows us to CHOOSE how we respond. As such it helps us move away from REACTING (and generally re-enacting, compulsive behaviours patterns) to RESPONDING to situations more powerfully. Being able to CHOOSE helps us enjoy we get to enjoy greater sense of FREEDOM.

Mindfulness has been practised in the East, and in particular in Buddhist traditions, for over 2,500 years. It was introduced West by Thich Nhat Hanh and popularised into psychology by Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program.

Mindfulness teachers us to become and unprejudiced observer, to apply curiosity over judgement and criticism. Mindful helps us move towards meeting and accepting ALL PARTS (shadows) of self as it encourages NEUTRALITY (non-duality) and supports us towards being more COMPASSIONATE to self and others.

What is Mindfulness?

We may say to someone ‘be mindful’ when we want them to be more aware of the situation that they are in.

When we speak about mindfulness, we speak about being more aware, more conscious. Mindfulness is often referred to as the mindfulness practice which is likely to entail attending to our surrounds, our breath, our sensations, our body. Part of mindfulness practice may also be mindful eating or mindful walking. The aim of ‘practising’ mindfulness is to be more MINDFUL - aware of the present moment. Mindfulness practice helps us arrive in the present moment - the NOW - moment that indeed is a PRESENT (GIFT).

Mindfulness plays a big part in the work with my clients. I record tailor made mediations to help my clients with issues such as attention, anxiety, trauma, pain, addiction, disassociation, black and white thinking.

I draw mindful awareness into our coaching conversations.

I should mention that homeopathic inquiry is very mindful as take time to take listen what is going on for the person on on levels and how that is echoed in the bodily systems in the most non-judgmental manner.

Below are mindfulness based meditations for you to enjoy. Let me know how you get on.
