Heart Balm
I explore LOVE in this blog for it plays such key role in everything we do. This is a light, playful exploration. For issues around ‘loving’ check out Love Matters where I share homeopathic remedies that can help with this pain.
What does love mean to you?
We associate love with the heart. The heart chakra that sustains and nourishes the loving, kind, compassionate feelings.
Anahata is the name for heart chakra in Sanskrit and it translates to "unhurt, unstuck, or unbeaten.” Emotional issues such as grief, feeling let down, rejection etc will unbalance this chakra and physical symptoms around heart and lungs may manifest as asthma, bronchitis, any kind of heart conditions as well as high blood pressure.
Have difficult relationships affected how you perceive yourself? Do you find it hard to regard yourself with a sense of love and kindness? If your heart is in ‘hurt or stuck’ state I invite you to read my previous blog called ‘Love Matters’ and learn how specifically homeopathy could help with healing on an emotional, physical, energetic and mental level. But here I offer some ideas that you can do for yourself to invite more loving feelings in your heart, in your life, into this world.
Connect through your senses
How does love feel?
Different for different people. Here are some ideas of how we can nourish the loving feelings through our senses and thoughts:
Feeling love
Through touch we release oxytocin. Oxytocin is the ‘love’ hormone that helps us connect with other people. It acts as a neurotransmitter and brings about feelings of empathy, kindness, compassion.
If you are not in a relationship you may notice the benefits of hugs with your friends, when you stroke your pet, have a massage or apply moisturiser to your skin, when water caresses you during bath or shower.… if you are in a relationship but struggle to enjoy intimacy, get in touch.
Hearing love
OMG! If you haven’t yet, you got to check this out to understand the power of words:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAvzsjcBtx8
Words are energy! Transform your life with them. Use them wisely, let's get creative with it. ‘Love’ in itself is such a beautiful word to say in the English language. (Far easier than ‘ljubezen - love’ or ‘Jaz te ljubim- I love you’ in Slovenian.) Saying ‘I love sunshine’, ‘I love the sea’, 'I love chocolate’ how does that make you feel? Use love words and think of the tone of your voice as you speak.
Tasting love
If you were to taste love, what would it taste like?…. Chocolate perhaps?
“Chocolate contains a number of interesting psychoactive chemicals. These include anandamide, a neurotransmitter whose name comes from the Sanskrit - "ananda", meaning "joy, bliss, delight". Anandamides stimulate the brain in much the same way that cannabis does.” https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-39067088
May I introduce you to my favourite chocolate? https://chocolateandlove.com
Interestingly in homeopathic preparation we use Chocolate remedy when someone talks about strong feelings or need for ‘connection’.
Smelling love
If you were to smell love, what would it smell like? More chocolate, baby child, sex…?
Hmm, what tones does Jo Malone put out to draw people to their shops on Valentines Day?
Pukka have a tea called ‘Love’. They make it using rose, camomile and lavender. Did you know that scent makes the quicker association with our memories?
Seeing love
Can you think of a person, animal, image that brings about a warming loving feeling? Visualise an image of a loved one, an animal and connect with the loving energy of this. Think about the link I include in the ‘hearing’ love above.
Name it, use it
I encourage you to connect with your senses to amplify those cosy feelings of love. And as you do so, do it with an intention of loving kindness.
Can’t ‘feel’ Love?
If you suffer with loss of smell, taste, hearing, have issues with touch?
Are you in a relationship but missing out on intimacy as a result of physical or emotional pain, issues around self image, sexual dysfunction of any kind?
You want to do something about it?
